Olduvai Gorge is an archaeological site located in the eastern Serengeti Plains, which is in northern Tanzania. The gorge is a very steep sided ravine roughly 30 miles long and 295 ft. deep. Exposed deposits show rich fossil fauna, many hominid remains and items belonging to the one of the oldest stone tool technologies, called Olduwan. The time span of the objects recovered date from 2,100,000 to 15,000 years ago

Engaruka Ruins A mysterious ruined city.  Located at the foot of the Rift Valley Escarpment, Engaruka remains one of Tanzania's most important historic sites.  Over 500 years ago a community of farmers developed a unique irrigation and cultivation system channeling water from the Rift Escarpment into stone canals and terraces.  Although abandoned in the 1700s Engaruka illustrates a once highly specialized and integrated agricultural community which has been investigated by archeologists world-wide. top

Lake Natron - Lake Natron is one of the many alkaline lakes of the Great African Rift Valley and situated in spectacular volcanic scenery.  It is the main breeding area of the Lesser Flamingos.  There are opportunities of seeing large flocks of flamingos as well as good herds of zebra, wildebeest and gazelle. Also an opportunity to see good scenery of the rift valley.

Lake Eyasi - one of the soda lakes in the Rift Valley. Explore this dry and rugged land, which is still inhabited by a small group of Bushmen: the Hadzabi or Watingdiga, who still live in bands, hunting with bows and arrows; gathering roots, tubers and wild fruits, as humans did 10,000 years ago. Another interesting tribe in this area are the Datoga (also called the Barabaig or Mang'ati). The Datoga tribe is pastoralist people who migrated into this area in search of good grazing land. So far they have resisted neighboring tribal culturaltop

Kilwa Masoko is of interest primarily as a base for visiting the ruins of the 15th century Arab settlement at nearby Kilwa Kisiwani. Otherwise, there are a few pretty beaches on the outskirts of town

Pangani is a small Swahili town in the center of a virtually undiscovered stretch of coast in Tanga Region. The main attraction of Pangani is the pristine coastline to the north and south of Pangani town. There are also several attractions in and around Pangani that can be visited during day trips, This beautiful coast offer many activities including snorkeling diving and sandbars.

Bagamoyo The famous old slave trading station on the mainland coast opposite Zanzibar used was the starting point for many of the best-trodden caravan routes into the interior. Now much faded, Bagamoyo remains an interesting place to visit and there are some reasonable beaches and hotels along the coast.
